Remembering Laura Hillier: A Tribute Beyond Words
The Battle with Leukemia
Laura Hillier, an exceptional student from Nelson High School in Ontario, Canada, first faced the challenges of leukemia at the tender age of 13. After four years of being cancer-free, the disease tragically returned, taking Laura away on January 20, 2016.
The Hope for Laura Facebook page, maintained by her family, conveyed their sentiments, saying, “She exhibited bravery, poise, and an unyielding spirit. Laura remained strong, courageous, and radiant until the very end.”
A Yearbook Goodbye
Laura had a deep passion for music and drama, which resonated with everyone at her school. Although she received her 12th-grade yearbook before her passing, those close to her felt that her farewell should encapsulate the essence of a yearbook tribute.
In a heartwarming gesture, her casket was transformed into a canvas of remembrance. Family, friends, educators, and peers covered it with colorful, heartfelt messages that celebrated
Laura’s life and the impact she made on theirs.

“You were musical. You were artistic. You were understanding. You were my best friend.”

The vibrant annotations on the once stark white casket symbolized Laura’s vivacious spirit and the indelible mark she left on the world.
